Political clientelism remains a political dilemma in Global South Politics, including Indonesian politics. Thus, democratisation agendas in Post Soeharto Indonesia definitely should lead to transform political clientelism into a more democratic political practice based on citizenships. However, based on Prospereous Justice Party’s experiences in enhancing party-based philantrophy activities in Yogyakarta, political clientelism did not fade away, but has been transformed into new one. New political clientelism in Indonesia put the patron more plural and not monolithic anymore. The clients also has grown more autonomous but segmented. Subsequently, new clientelism in contemporary Indonesian politics shows a shift of pattern of political exchanges from dependent and dominant relations between the only one patron and clients into assymetrical but reciprocal political transaction between more plural patrons and relatively autonomous clients.
